What is PPP in HAL context?

Hi,

It sounds like a silly question, sorry.

The PPP prefix refers to the peripheral functional mode and not to the peripheral itself.
For example, if the USART, PPP can be USART, IRDA, UART or SMARTCARD
depending on the peripheral mode.

Somehow I have some trouble believing it’s really the Point to Point Protocol. Though it is mentioned as such in STM32 docs.

Is it a placeholder?
