SW4STM32 and SW4Linux fully supports the STM32MP1 asymmetric multicore Cortex/A7+M4 MPUs

With System Workbench for Linux, Embedded Linux on the STM32MP1 family of MPUs from ST was never as simple to build and maintain, even for newcomers in the Linux world. And, if you install System Workbench for Linux in System Workbench for STM32 you can seamlessly develop and debug asymmetric applications running partly on Linux, partly on the Cortex-M4.
You can get more information from the ac6-tools website and download (registration required) various documents highlighting:

STM32F103C8T6 and st-link v2 Debugging error

Hi

The error message in your first post is from the dialog “Problem Occurred” -> detail.
If you select then the console output from openocd you will find something like

...
undefined debug reason 7 - target needs reset
Error: timed out while waiting for target halted
TARGET: stm32f1x.cpu - Not halted
in procedure 'reset'
in procedure 'ocd_bouncer'
...

This is what happens when i use this local script:

# This is an STM32F1xx-vswr-meter board with a single STM32F103C8Tx chip.
# Generated by System Workbench for STM32

source [find interface/stlink-v2.cfg]

set WORKAREASIZE 0x5000
transport select "hla_swd"

source [find target/stm32f1x_stlink.cfg]

# use hardware reset, connect under reset
reset_config srst_only srst_nogate

When I use this one it works.

# This is an STM32F103C8T6-mini board with a single STM32F103C8Tx chip.
# Generated by System Workbench for STM32

source [find interface/stlink-v2.cfg]

set WORKAREASIZE 0x5000
transport select "hla_swd"

#source [find target/stm32f1x_stlink.cfg]

source [find target/stm32f1x.cfg]

# use hardware reset, connect under reset
#reset_config srst_only srst_nogate
reset_config srst_nogate
