ODR help

A really newbie topic ;o)

Why can i not
while (1)
{

GPIOA ->ODR |= 1 ODR &= ~(1 ODR |= 0x0100;
HAL_Delay(10);
GPIOA ->ODR &= ~(0x0100);
HAL_Delay(10);
/* USER CODE BEGIN 3 */

}
Odr2
is working .... A8 is blinking ...

It say overflow on bitshifting but the port is 32 bit so why ?
