STM32lxx lib. Unable to override weak reference

I am trying to run one of the SPI example programs in the STM32Lxx cube library and I am having an odd problem getting the stm32l1xx_hal_spi.c module to link correctly. The stm321xx_hal_spi.c has weak HAL_StatusTypeDef HAL_SPI_Init(SPI_HandleTypeDef *hspi) whereas stm321xx_spi_ex.c hasHAL_StatusTypeDef HAL_SPI_Init(SPI_HandleTypeDef *hspi) which should override the weak reference. The code links to the weak reference which simply returns HAL_ERROR and does not give any kind of compile or link error. Also the library builds without error as well. I did verify both modules were included in the link library build

I am using Ubuntu 14.04 64 bit under Parallels if that makes any difference.

Am I missing some configuration setting somewhere?

Thanks for the help,
Mark

Hi Mark,
What did you do to solve the above problem ?

Thanks,
Jay.
