L152 discovery board and LCD DisplayString enables bars

just getting my feet wet with a L152 discovery board. Utilizing the LCD I ran into an issue.
Every time I write a String to LCD. (using BSP_LCD_GLASS_DisplayString() ) I end up having the 4 LCD bars being displayed. Had to add BSP_LCD_GLASS_ClearBar( 0x0f ) to clear’em. Kinda works but the bars still fliicker.

Is this a bug in the low level function or do I do something wrong?
How can this be avoided?

guess found the answer myself. the lcd bar segment can be contol the following way:

extern uint8_t LCDBar;
LCDBar = n; n = 0...4
